National Wrestling Hall of Fame Member, and former Wisconsin Badger, Lee Kemp takes on legend Dan Gable in the 158lb finals at the 1977 Northern Open.
- Kemp was one of only 5 wrestlers to ever beat Gable. The others were
Bobby Douglas, Rick Sanders, Tom Huff, and of course Larry Owens.
- During Kemp's time as a Badger he won 3 NCAA titles and was a runner up. His freshmen year, Lee lost a split decision in the NCAA finals.
- Lee's career record as a Badger was
143-6-1.
- After college Lee won World Championships in 1978, 1979 and again in 1982. In 1980 Kemp made the Olympic team and was a favorite to win, but the United States boycotted the Games that year. The following year, in 1981 Kemp took a bronze medal at the World Championships.
- Lee's 1982 World Gold medal made him the first American to ever win three World Championships.
