It was nice to go down there and get three wins. We got a few pins and scored a lot of back points. I saw a lot of things we've been working on.
Cudd lost a close one. He relaxed in the last ten seconds- the guy shot and took him down. Collin needs to understand that he's going to have a lot of one point matches this year. He needs to stay offensive like he does normally and he will win those matches instead of giving up points at the end.
Tanelli did well and beat another ranked guy. He came from behind in his match with Virginia and showed some grit. He got the winning takedown as the buzzer sounded. We need guys to be able and step up like that. Tanelli should have beat everybody he wrestled this weekend and he did.
Ruschell is a gamer. His mat wrestling is good but his bottom position needs to get better. Caldwell from N.C. State rode him out, we can't have that. We have to ride them out, we can't have them ride us out. Otherwise he looked good, his scrambling position is getting better all the time and he is picking up his offense.
Turner wrestled really well and is making big improvements. His pace is incredible, it's just…not only his pace but position he keeps in the meantime. If he keeps wrestling with that pace he is going to be tough to beat. Ty is also getting much better on top, riding is so important in those late matches at the NCAA.
Henning is starting to get in his groove. He is picking up pace in practice and in his matches. Craig is not quite dominating like he should be yet, that should come in time.
Donar had a bad weekend. We will be working through some things here.
This was Brandvold's first competition and he wrestled well. Trevor made one big mistake with the Virginia kid, who was ranked 11th . He tried to get a reversal instead of just securing his escape. In a tight match like that you have to get your escape, Trevor lost 3-2. But he looked good in his other matches, he is going to come a long ways by the end of the year.
Herbst had a few pins, he looked good. Dallas is separating himself from most of the crowd, which he needs to do if he's going to make a good run when we enter the Big Ten season.
Kyle Massey needs more time yet, he is still figuring things out. But he will get much stronger with time.
We will have a hard training week here with a few days off for Thanksgiving. Guys can go home and deer hunt and be with their families, then we will jump right back in it. We got into the Vegas tournament this year, and we are going to be gearing up for that hard. There are a lot of good teams out there, for instance, Tanelli will have 13 of the top 20 kids in his weight class. It will be the only time we face some of those West Coast teams. Beating them in Vegas will go a long ways when it comes time for seeding at the NCAA Tournament.
